Photographer Paul-Émile Rioux started the Landcuts project in 2010
Each Landcuts is a virtual world, a Metaverse.
My interest: Our shifting relationship to space and place, and the way we think about the environment and nature. The Project: Take the viewer to places both inward and alien that could exist in the real world as well as in a virtual one. How: Mix and match reality with invention, through images that I construct and build using photography, words, product shots or 3-D models. Why: Disrupt our perception and to break free from what we know to be true.

"Rioux exists squarely at the center of the digital, or digimorphic matrix. His works have such an order of internal logic that we feel we should have seen their kin before. In fact, they have no antecedents, which makes their allure all the stronger and more compelling."
